GENEALOGY OF ABAKHOONE

All Abkhoone trace their genealogy to man called NAMADA who came from Kitaara Kingdom on the Shores of Lake Albert in Uganda at about 1300AD when the Luo Babito invaded the Kitaara Kingdom (In a later post, I will give details of how this luo babito invation caused the Abakhoone diaspora). Namada was a grandson of King Wamara of Kitaara Kingdom. The genealogy of Abakhoone is as follows:

Namada gave birth to Bwibo.
Bwibo gave birth to Gonja
Gonja was the father of Khoobi (I will tell you the story of Khoobi later on)
Khoobi was the father of Khoone
Khoone the father of Ngusa
Ngusa the father of Kaya
Kaya the father of Sirwa
Sirwa is the one who gave birth to the fifteen sons that make up the 15 houses of the Abakhoone clan. It is from these sons of Sirwa that Abakhoone multiplied immensely these were:

  • Ndekwe (Ng'ang'a)
  • Miini
  • Khokosi
  • Dimbia
  • Hulang'u
  • Khatimbo
  • Lubalo
  • Lobokha
  • Hoolo
  • Membwe
  • Diera
  • Dubuusi
  • Mwakala
  • Mukoma
  • Muyofu

After the great war of Ifunikho in 1800AD (this is the war of dispersion that cause the abakhoone to migrate from Bunambo when all the neighbouring clans attacked their kingdom of Bunambo) some Abakhoone migrated and settled in a place called Bushangala in Ikolomani in Kakamega. But since they were running away from hostility, they decided not to identify themselves as Abakhoone. Instead the introduced themselves as Abasirwa after their fore father. Therefore if you go to Bushangala, the clan of the people called Abasiirwa are actually Abakhoone and they know it. But they call themselves this way in identity of Sirwa one of our grand fathers.
